A 55-year-old man, Devin Todd Williams , died Thursday morning following an apparent medical emergency at the Harris County Jail, only hours after being arrested for a drunk driving allegation.
Williams was arrested by the Harris County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office and booked into jail at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Williams was discovered unresponsive in the Joint Processing Center waiting area by jail workers at 9 a.m. on Thursday. He was pronounced dead by medical personnel.
The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences will perform an autopsy to identify the cause of death. The Houston Police Department will also launch an independent inquiry into the death, as mandated by state law. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office will conduct an internal review to ensure that jail staff followed all regulations and procedures.
