A man was apprehended for killing his parents in Central Florida.
Detectives assigned to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Robbery and Homicide Unit are investigating a double homicide after two adults were discovered dead in their home.
Deputies assigned to the Patrol Operations Bureau recently responded to Saunders Avenue in Largo after a caller requested a welfare check for an employee who did not show up for work.
When deputies got on the scene, they found the victims, 53-year-old Elizabeth Lee Kirchner and 64-year-old Steven Eric Kirchner, dead in the living room from apparent gunshot wounds.
Detectives uncovered during their investigation that the victim’s son, 37-year-old Nicholas Steven Kirchner, fled the scene before deputies arrived. Detectives received a call from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office in South Carolina about a separate incident involving Nicholas.
During this incident, Nicholas declared, “I’ve already killed two people—I’ll kill some more.” Nicholas fled this incident as well but was eventually apprehended by the Taliaferro County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia.
According to law enforcement, Nicholas admitted to killing his parents several times and described it as a “righteous kill.”
Nicholas was arrested and transported to the McDuffie County Jail in Georgia on a felony warrant for two charges of first-degree premeditated murder. We have notified Nicholas’ next of kin.
The investigation continues, according to local law enforcement.
