On April 23, 2025, correctional officers at the Elmore Correctional Facility Annex saw someone throwing a package over the facility’s fence. Alabama State Troopers apprehended the suspect, Duonta Lanier, promptly thanks to Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) Communications.
Lanier was arrested and taken to the Elmore Detention Facility. He is charged with trafficking methamphetamine, synthetic drugs, and oxycodone, as well as first-degree marijuana possession and possession of drug paraphernalia. Lanier is presently being jailed under a $4,516,000 bond.
ADOC correctional personnel, K-9 and narcotics units, and Alabama State Troopers all worked together to make the arrest possible. The package found at the scene contained about 99 grams of ecstasy, 188 grams of methamphetamine, 337 grams of marijuana, 52 grams of sprayed paper, and a set of digital scales.
The investigation is still underway, and additional charges may be pending.
