Police arrested a Fort Lauderdale man on a sexual battery charge Thursday in connection with accusations from an acquaintance in 2023.
Brenden Lee Jones, also known as Brendon or Brendan Lee Jones in official records, is suspected of raping the woman on September 15, 2023, after the two were involved in a car accident that left her injured.
According to an incident record from the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, the woman, who lives at a Lauderhill homeless shelter, called the police to report being raped “somewhere behind the KFC” at 3100 W. Broward Blvd.
FLPD officers stated that they found no proof of sexual assault. According to court documents, Jones, 40, resides three streets south of the eatery in the Melrose Park area.
According to the report, the lady informed authorities in an interview that Jones, also known as the drug dealer “Twin,” picked her up at a food store near Dillard High School, and they were rear-ended while driving.
Jones’ buddy picked them up after she fled the scene, but Jones refused to be taken to the hospital, according to authorities. The woman had to be lifted out of the vehicle “because she was in pain and immobile,” according to the report.
Police said the two drove back to Jones’ residence, despite the victim’s statement that she “told them to take her home if they weren’t going to take her to the hospital.”
Authorities say she fell asleep in Jones’ bed and awoke to him raping her despite her warnings to stop.
According to the report, Jones made comments like “I can do what I want” and “Open your f—ing legs; you made me crash my car,” according to the woman.
Police reported that the woman informed officers, through sobs, that she felt “helpless” during the rape.
Authorities said Jones’ DNA was found in rape kit evidence processed in 2024, leading to his arrest on Thursday.
According to Florida Department of Corrections records, Jones has spent time in jail for robbery, cocaine sales, and escape.
Jones was being held on a $150,000 bail at the Broward Main Jail on Friday.
