A man has been sentenced to life in prison in connection with the 2023 fatal shooting of a man at a Dairy Queen in Northeast Columbus.
According to Franklin County Court of Common Pleas records, Kiyaire Blow, 21, pled guilty to aggravated murder with a firearm on February 20.
On March 13, the court sentenced Blow to life in prison with the prospect of parole after 23 consecutive years. According to court records, the order also required Blow to be registered in the violent offender database.
According to the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office, police responded to a shooting incident outside the Dairy Queen on the 1500 block of Schrock Road on August 26, 2023.
Nathaniel Joe-Summerall, 19, was found with gunshot wounds and pronounced dead at the scene, according to the prosecutor’s office. Blow then arrived at OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital with gunshot wounds.
According to the prosecutor’s office, Blow arranged to trade firearms with Joe-Summerall in the Dairy Queen parking lot. Blow, 17-year-old Dreyton Lane, and three others met in the parking lot and decided to rob Joe-Summerall instead of completing the trade.
A brawl apparently broke out following the unsuccessful trade when Blow attempted to remove the gun physically from Joe-Summerall. According to the prosecutor, Blow and his co-defendants fired their guns, striking the victim many times.
Lane was not involved in the shooting, but he was armed and seized one of the victim’s firearms, according to the prosecutor’s office. He fled the scene before dropping the gun.
Five individuals, including three teenagers, were detained and charged in connection with the incident.
Lane pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery and involuntary manslaughter involving a handgun. He is scheduled to be sentenced on June 3 and might face 15 to 19.5 years.
