One of the men who was arrested for the armed robbery and fatal shooting of 20-year-old Jordan Capuchino nearly three years ago has been handed a 45-year prison sentence.
Jorge Antonio Cruz, 23, agreed to a plea deal on June 3 after being charged with capital murder.
The shooting took place in the early morning hours of September 17, 2022. Capuchino was standing outside a nightclub with his buddies when they were approached by a group of men in a pickup truck who robbed them at gunpoint.
The men were apparently seeking a gold necklace worth approximately $7,000 that Capuchino’s acquaintance wore.
Following the robbery, Capuchino and his pals pursued the pickup truck in their truck, driven by Capuchino.
Realizing their pursuit, the robbers maneuvered Capuchino’s vehicle into a cul-de-sac, trapping it between two cars. With nowhere for the victims to go, Cruz is suspected to have fatally shot Capuchino, court filings state.
After the gunshot, they transported Capuchino to the hospital, where he tragically passed away.
Along with Cruz, two other individuals have been charged with murder in this case. Daniel Moreno, who has not accepted a plea offer, is scheduled to go to trial on December 8. Giovanni Gonzalez, the third suspect, remains at large.
