Authorities are trying to determine what led to a man fatally shooting his younger brother in northwest Houston during an apparent quarrel about their mother, who fainted and injured her head.
The Houston Police Department was called three times regarding family problems at a property at Morroco Road off Gessner and Tanner Road, which is why the details are a little confused.
Officers first responded to the home at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, according to HPD Lt. Willkens. A mother, two brothers, one in his mid-30s and the other in his late 20s, the man’s girlfriend, and their infant were all inside the house. As of this writing, neither of them had been identified.
During the initial incident, Lt. Willkens stated that the male in his twenties was arguing with his girlfriend, but no one wanted to press charges, so police gave him a trip to the north side of Houston to cool off.
A few hours later, Lt. Willkens said that police were summoned back to the house after the younger brother came in a car and threatened his girlfriend. When cops arrived, a “family member,” Lt. Willkens stated, told them that no threats had been made and that the unidentified younger brother had simply come to pick up work clothing before leaving. Despite this, the officers stayed and filed no charges. Police ultimately departed.
It wasn’t until around 1:15 a.m. on Wednesday that HPD received another call. This time, they discovered the younger brother dead on the spot, with the older brother attempting chest compressions on him. Lt. Willkens stated that the mother fainted due to the excitement and injured her head.
Lt. Willkens indicated that the younger brother returned home and begged to stay the night. Both brothers began shouting, and after the mother fainted, Lt. Willkens stated things heated up since they were both blaming each other for what had transpired.
According to the older brother, the younger brother was attempting to push his way into a room containing two female family members and a toddler. At one point, the older brother pulled out a revolver and shot his younger brother several times.
Everyone in the house is assisting with the ongoing investigation. As of this writing, no new information had been given. We have contacted the Harris County District Attorney’s Office about this case and will present it to a grand jury for review.
