A man who was wanted in Georgia has been apprehended in Marlboro County on Friday afternoon.
A man who was wanted by authorities was apprehended by deputies at a residence in the McColl community of Marlboro County. Chief Deputy Larry Turner of the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the arrest took place at a home off Railroad Avenue.
Deputies responded to the home after receiving a report of an overdose, but it was later determined to be unfounded, according to Turner.
However, Turner revealed that Jamie Lee Clark, who was staying at the property, had an outstanding warrant in Henry County, Georgia, for a probation violation connected to earlier criminal offenses.
“With assistance from the Marlboro County Probation Office, investigators obtained a fugitive from justice warrant for Mr. Clark. Further investigation revealed that Clark was inside the residence and refused to exit. The Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team and Marlboro County Probation attempted to persuade Clark to comply, but he continued to refuse,” he said.
Turner reported that they eventually secured a search warrant for the home. While waiting for the warrant, officers requested Clark’s mother to persuade him to surrender, which she did; Turner reports Clark exited the home calmly approximately an hour later.
Marlboro County Sheriff Larry McNeil credited Chief Deputy Turner’s mature thinking and the trust Clark’s mother had in law enforcement for the successful outcome.
According to Turner, each situation is unique, but the preservation of life is always the top priority.
Clark is currently being held in the Marlboro County Detention Center and will remain there until he is extradited to Georgia.
