In an announcement made today by State’s Attorney Jaymi Sterling, it was revealed that Marvin Orlando Johnson, a resident of Mechanicsville, Maryland, has been found guilty of first-degree murder and using a firearm to commit a crime of violence against his stepfather. The verdict came after a four-day trial held in St. Mary’s County, where it was found that Johnson had premeditatedly shot and killed his stepfather.

The court has ordered that the Defendant be held without bond until the sentencing hearing, where he could face a maximum sentence of life in prison plus twenty years.

State’s Attorney Sterling expressed hope that the verdict would bring peace and a sense of justice to the family who had to endure the unimaginable nightmare of losing a loved one to the hands of another family member. Sterling thanked the law enforcement and prosecutorial team for their hard work in investigating and prosecuting this tragic homicide.

Jeff Maylor, a Senior Assistant State’s Attorney, and Zach Varda, an Assistant State’s Attorney, represented the citizens of St. Mary’s County in the prosecution of the case.

The main investigator on the case was Detective Andrew Burgess from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office.

Judge Amy Lorenzini oversaw the case.
