A significant crash occurred around 1:30 p.m. On Sunday, traffic snarled near State Road 44 and Interstate 75 in Wildwood.
The collision included three vehicles, including a truck pulling a horse trailer. At least one person was flown from the collision site, and there looked to be other injuries. Firefighters had to rip the top off a blue automobile to liberate its passengers.
The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office and Sumter County Fire Rescue were on the scene, and the Florida Highway Patrol took over to investigate the collision.
The eastbound lanes of State Road 44 were closed while the crash was being cleaned up and investigated. Motorists were directed to northbound I-75.
