A Mexican citizen was discovered in Western Pennsylvania, illegally entering the United States after being apprehended and deported seven times within the last 12 years.
A federal grand jury in Pittsburgh has indicted Dario Fortunato-Torres, 37, with one count of illegally re-entering the United States, according to Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti. The charges stem from an incident on October 8, 2024, in Moon Township, where Fortunato-Torres was later apprehended by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The Department of Justice (DOJ) reported that Fortunato-Torres had been deported from the country seven times between September 2013 and October 2017.
The indictment was a result of ICE’s investigation.
The federal grand jury in Pittsburgh has also indicted another illegal immigrant who was previously deported, along with Fortunato-Torres.
Luis Fernando Diaz-Garcia, a 27-year-old citizen of Honduras, has been charged with illegal re-entry after being deported in August 2019 following charges filed by Pennsylvania State Police.
Violating the law could result in a prison term of up to two years, a fine of up to $250,000, or both.
