A Miramar woman who works for the City of Miami Police Department was arrested after reportedly submitting a fraudulent rental assistance application.
According to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Vernesha Johnson, 33, is charged with two felonies, including public assistance fraud.
According to FDLE, Miami Police stated that she submitted a fake application for rental and utilities assistance in September 2022.
The inquiry discovered that she faked pay stubs to make it appear that her income was lower than it actually was, and she requested almost $63,000 in help from the Broward County Emergency Rental Help Program.
Officials stated that she first claimed to be a victim of identity theft and even submitted a bogus report about it.
She has been removed of service by the Miami Police Department and is being housed in the Broward County Jail.
