After allegedly stabbing his dog and sharing a video of the injured animal online, a Detroit man who identified as a transgender woman is accused of tormenting the defenseless animal.
He’s since been arrested.
According to sources, the gender dysphoric person’s real name is Jordan Colangelo, but he is also known as Jordan Love, as well as the feminine nicknames “Jazzmyne Marie” and “Jazzmyne Love.”
Jordan Love, 29, of Detroit, was arrested last week approximately 700 miles from home on accusations of second-degree animal homicide, torture, abandonment, and cruelty to four to ten animals.
In addition to the damaged dog, Love stabbed his cat, according to lawyer Steve Vincent, who testified during the initial hearing.
Because he prefers to identify as a woman, he is listed as a “female” in the police report, prompting mainstream media outlets such as CBS News, The Independent, FOX 2 Detroit, and People Magazine to incorrectly describe him as a woman.
The incident was reported to Detroit Animal Control (DAC) in response to the distressing animal mistreatment allegations.
According to the police report, policemen approached a city residence and pushed their way inside. According to a statement from the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, cops discovered the defenseless dog moaning and “suffering from multiple stab wounds to its torso” after leaving it to die in the basement.
The Detroit Animal Care and Control shelter rescued three dogs and four cats from Love’s animal abuse “house of horrors.” The seven animals, including the injured dog, have since been placed in separate foster care homes, according to the prosecutor’s office.
However, officials have not revealed any additional information on the other animals.
Within hours of the incident, Love shared a video of the distressed puppy on social media. Authorities then stated that he fled the state shortly thereafter, presumably in an attempt to avoid capture.
The 29-year-old suspect evaded police for 13 days before being arrested by cops in Greenville, South Carolina. Detectives with the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office returned him to Michigan.
If convicted, Love faces up to nine years in jail.
Prosecutor Kym Worthy stated that the department has always taken animal mistreatment seriously. “We have influenced legislation and have been aggressive with the relevant laws, seeking and fighting to amend them in many cases. Although we never anticipated the alleged brutality and cruelty that this case portrays, as a result of our previous efforts, this case is a clear example of why tougher legislation was required,” she added.
According to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, Love appeared before Magistrate William Burton in the 36th District Court and was issued a GPS tracker and a $50,000 cash/surety bail.
“The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for April 21st, 2025, and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for April 28, 2025, before Judge Marlena Taylor,” according to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
