A southern Indiana man who went missing earlier this week has been found dead.
The Harrison County Sheriff’s Office has been searching for Joe Rothrock, 77, of Jeffersonville, since Wednesday.
His family reported him missing after discovering his truck at a family campsite on the Blue River, but there was no sign of Rothrock or his dog.
Authorities deployed a variety of resources, including dogs, drones, and members of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources dive team, to aid in search efforts. Two hours into their search on Friday, Rothrock’s dog was discovered dead in a river about a mile from the campsite.
The eight-hour search just west of Corydon ended as weather conditions deteriorated, but it restarted Saturday morning.
Officers from Harrison County said that Rothrock’s body was discovered in the river about 800 feet west of the encampment. The Harrison County Coroner’s Office has formally identified Rothrock.
Authorities said preliminary evidence at the scene shows no signs of foul play, and an official cause and manner of death would be determined after an autopsy.
