The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting on Crosby Road that occurred Saturday and involved deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, officers from the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks, and the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
According to police, law enforcement officers raced to a local hospital after a woman arrived with an apparent gunshot wound. Officers went to a residence on Crosby Road to conduct additional investigations based on information collected from the victim.
Upon arrival, a suspect in the home reportedly showed a firearm, resulting in a gunfight between the individual and law enforcement. The person received significant injuries and was taken to a neighboring hospital. There were no cops wounded during the event.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is now evaluating the scene and gathering evidence. After the inquiry is completed, the findings will be turned over to the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office for consideration.
Authorities have stated that the material supplied thus far is preliminary and may be revised as the investigation continues.
