On Tuesday, amidst the snow and freezing temperatures in southeast Texas, a mother and her two babies were discovered lying out in the cold.
According to court documents, Ayana McClinton, 31, is charged with one count of child endangerment and another count of injury to a child.
Deputies from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office swiftly responded to a distressing 911 call at approximately 6:40 a.m. The call reported a distressing sight of a woman and her babies lying on a sidewalk at 12062 Veterans Memorial Drive.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) reported that the 30-year-old mother displayed signs of intoxication. Despite the outside temperature being approximately 28 degrees, she made the decision to take a nap on the ground outside.
The authorities reported that the woman was in possession of an open alcoholic beverage.
The first responders quickly arrived on the scene and provided immediate medical attention to the two infants, aged 2 months and 1 year. These young babies had endured cold-related injuries as they were found lying outside under a single blanket.
According to a spokesperson from Child Protective Services (CPS), they are currently conducting an investigation into the incident in collaboration with law enforcement. The good news is that the children involved are safe and in good health. They have been discharged from the hospital and are now under the care of a family member.
