Houston police are searching for 52-year-old Alvaro Lovos, who is believed to have chased down and fatally attacked his neighbor, 67-year-old Charlie Wilson, with a machete.

Lovos is suspected of assaulting Wilson outside a convenience store in Houston on November 19. According to a police report, Wilson was struck at least 25 times, with 15 of those blows delivered while he was already lying motionless on the ground.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found Wilson suffering from multiple injuries. An autopsy later confirmed he died from “multiple sharp force injuries with chop wounds to the head and neck.”

The machete, which was covered in blood, was found at the scene.

Witnesses, including a clerk from the nearby convenience store, identified Lovos as a regular customer who lived in an apartment attached to the store. Police reviewed surveillance footage and soon identified Lovos as a suspect. After speaking with him, Lovos claimed he saw two men walking away from Wilson’s body.

Wilson’s family told ABC7 that Lovos lingered at the scene after the murder and interacted with them and the police, despite being covered in blood. He reportedly explained that he tried to help Wilson, which he said accounted for the blood on him. Though police initially did not arrest Lovos, they later charged him with murder after confirming he was responsible for the attack.

The motive for the crime remains unclear.

Wilson’s brother, Willie Ray, expressed confidence that the police would apprehend Lovos. “They’re gonna get him. He can run, but he can’t hide,” he said. “They’ll soon catch up with him. He ain’t gonna get away.”

However, despite his belief that Lovos will be caught, Willie Ray admitted he feels uneasy knowing the suspect is still on the loose. “I’m kinda nervous of him,” he told ABC7. “He might try to double back and do me.”

Lovos remains at large, and police are urging anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact Houston authorities at 713-308-3600.
