Paul DiMaio, a 56-year-old attorney from Turnersville, New Jersey, has been accused of smuggling contraband into the Federal Detention Center Philadelphia. Acting U.S. Attorney Nelson S.T. Thayer, Jr. said DiMaio was arrested after being accused of delivering forbidden items to an inmate, which was caught on camera by the FDC’s attentive monitoring system.

According to a Department of Justice press statement, DiMaio was photographed entering the institution with two folders on February 4th, only to return with one after an 18-minute discussion with an inmate who was not his client.

The apparent breach of protocol resulted in the confiscation of one folder from the offender, revealing a stash of contraband, including a Motorola cell phone, a charging cord, suboxone strips, and cigarettes.

Tanya Culver, a 55-year-old Philadelphia resident and mother of another inmate, is also implicated in this episode.

The complaint alleges that Culver was involved in the acquisition and transportation of the contraband, coordinating with DiMaio and accompanying him to the FDC that day.

If convicted, each defendant faces a maximum five-year term and a fine of up to $250,000.

Michael R. Miller, an Assistant United States Attorney, is leading the prosecution. Inquiries were referred to the contact information listed in the DOJ statement.
