A manager from a Bergen County bank, who worked in Belleville, has been charged with stealing tens of thousands of dollars, according to officials.

According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, a months-long investigation has resulted in the charging of a 43-year-old woman with two counts of theft.

In March 2024, authorities launched an investigation into the misappropriation of customer funds at a bank. The name of the bank was not disclosed by the prosecutor’s office.

According to prosecutors, the woman under her control stole $54,648 from cash boxes and withdrew approximately $15,000 from a customer’s account. She then redirected the funds to hide the ongoing theft.

On January 8, the woman willingly turned herself in to detectives at the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office. She is now facing charges of two counts of third-degree theft by deception. Following her surrender, she was released and awaits her first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack.

The case was investigated by the Belleville Police Department in collaboration with the prosecutor’s Financial Crimes Unit, as stated by Musella.
