A 53-year-old Hudson County man was struck and killed while attempting to fix the truck he was driving, authorities said.

Just before 5 a.m. Wednesday, first responders were dispatched to a crash on the northbound side of the Edison Bridge on Route 9. It parallels the Driscoll Bridge over the Raritan River.

Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone said Jamal Ebron, of Jersey City, was driving a tractor-trailer when it broke down in the right lane.

He was standing outside the vehicle when he was hit by a passing Hyundai Kona driven by a 33-year-old Old Bridge man.

Ebron was pronounced deceased on the scene.

By Thursday, several loved ones had left comments on Facebook, recalling Ebron as a devoted worker with a “golden heart” who adored his family.

Ciccone said the Hyundai driver was transferred to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Any prospective witnesses or anyone with information or dash camera footage is asked to contact Officer Kales of the Sayreville Police Department at 732-525-5418 or Detective McGarry of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at 732-745-3140.
