Nearly a dozen patients accuse their urgent care doctor of raping or groping them at his clinics throughout New Jersey, according to authorities.
On Thursday, the Attorney General’s Office said that Gurvindra Johal, 57, had been charged with two counts of second-degree sexual assault and 11 counts of fourth-degree sexual contact.
According to the OAG, the state grand jury reviewed evidence against the Colonia man gathered from sprawling investigations by prosecutors in three counties.
It’s been over two years since Johal was arrested on February 25, 2023.
At the time, two female patients at his practice on Cornell Street in Perth Amboy accused him of misconduct.
Authorities now say Johal is facing charges in 10 separate occurrences at urgent care clinics in Freehold Township, Perth Amboy, and Newark.
Five of the assaults, or half, occurred in Middlesex County, according to officials. The Middlesex County prosecutor asserts that Johal forced at least one woman into sexual relations against her will.
According to officials, Johal assaulted three further patients in Newark and two more in Freehold.
Theresa Hilton, director of the Division of Criminal Justice, described Johal as a “serial offender” who used his position as a doctor for sexual enjoyment.

Johal is also accused of fabricating paperwork and medical records. Both are fourth-degree crimes.
According to the authorities, one of Johal’s victims reported unwanted touching to her insurance company.
The insurance firm investigated, and Johal provided the investigators a letter containing fake information, according to authorities.
He stated that a medical assistant was present during a medical checkup, although this was not included in the original documents, according to investigators.
“Medical patients need to be able to trust that they will be treated with respect, care, and professionalism when they seek treatment. For a doctor to allegedly prey upon patients is something we will not tolerate,” Attorney General Matthew Platkin said.
