A new mugshot of the individual suspected of murdering a corporal in the 4th precinct of Harris County has been released.

Athir Murady, 40, has been accused with murder in Harris County and evading arrest in Galveston County in connection with the shooting death of Harris County Precinct 4 Cpl. Maher Husseini on September 3.

Cpl. Husseini was en route to work in his personal vehicle when Murady exited his vehicle, approached, and fired at Husseini’s SUV, according to the police. According to an HPD source, Murady returned to the scene and fired another shot at Husseini before fleeing the area after shooting at him and fleeing.

Murady was apprehended later that afternoon after being located in Galveston. According to authorities, he attempted to flee by leaping into the water after driving his vehicle into Galveston Bay. A police boat ultimately rescued Murady, and he was subsequently taken into custody.

Galveston County officials advocated for license plate reading cameras in the vicinity as a result of Murady’s arrest, as the technology was employed to follow Murady after the incident.
