The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office said a North Carolina teen was arrested on Tuesday after two separate investigations at an Upstate dealership.
According to the sheriff’s office, a deputy responded to a dealership on Clemson Boulevard around 9:09 a.m. on December 30. The call was for a complaint of car break-ins, including broken windows and attempts to program the vehicles so that they would start.
Officials claimed the deputy discovered evidence that a 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, worth $64,987, was driven away from the dealership.
According to the sheriff’s office, in a second investigation, a deputy was sent to the same dealership on Jan. 31 in response to complaints of a suspicious person. Upon our arrival, we discovered broken glass indicating a break-in at the building. A key box was also discovered to have been smashed into, with several vehicle keys missing.
In connection with the first investigation, deputies charged Trenton Porter, 18, of Asheville with one act of malicious harm to property and grand larceny. Cleveland County, North Carolina, found him still attached to the Camaro.
In the second inquiry, Porter was charged with second-degree burglary, petit larceny, and malicious damage to property.
Porter was moved from the Cleveland County (NC) Detention Center to Oconee County on Tuesday, according to officials.
