Community action groups across North Alabama are receiving over a million dollars in federal grant money to support energy-saving projects in homes.

One of the organizations that offers a program aimed at improving the energy efficiency of homes is the Community Action Partnership of North Alabama. Their Weatherization Assistance Program is designed to help make homes more energy-efficient.

To improve energy efficiency, one can take measures such as adding weather stripping to windows and insulation to attics. In addition, health and safety can be prioritized by installing carbon monoxide detectors and replacing water heaters.

The program places a high priority on providing assistance to elderly adults, individuals with disabilities, as well as families with children.

According to Angela Ingram, the Energy Director of the Community Action Partnership of North Alabama, there is a common misconception that homeowners or renters will have to bear the cost of their services. She wants people to know that their organization provides assistance free of charge and is eager to help those in need. “We are always ready to serve you,” she added.

The Community Action Partnership of North Alabama has been committed to supporting individuals living in poverty for over 60 years. One of their key responsibilities is ensuring that those who require assistance are able to maintain a safe and comfortable home environment.

Tim Thrasher, CEO of the Community Action Partnership of North Alabama, stated that their goal is to offer support to those who require it, particularly those living in poverty. He emphasized the importance of providing a range of services and assistance to individuals in need.

Over time, beneficiaries of the Weatherization Assistance Program can save a significant amount of money on their utility bills.

According to Ingram, there are cases where the home repair requirements are more significant, such as the need for a new roof or extensive basement repairs. In such situations, Community Action Partnership of North Alabama collaborates with leveraged funds to undertake larger projects and broaden the range of aid offered.

According to Ingram, the main objective is to ensure individuals can remain in the comfort of their own homes.

Ingram shared a recent experience where they were able to help an elderly man who was facing the possibility of being displaced and sent to a nursing home. “It made a significant difference in his life,” Ingram added.

Your household income must be at or below 200% of the current poverty guideline to be eligible for assistance.
