At approximately 3:16 a.m., the Paramus police were alerted about a stolen white Audi that was recklessly speeding southbound on Route 17. Officer Jaime Takahashi, upon spotting the vehicle near A&S Drive, immediately attempted to initiate a traffic stop. However, the driver, exhibiting blatant disregard for the law, refused to comply and continued evading the authorities.
The pursuit carried on as the suspect vehicle traveled southbound on Route 17. Eventually, it exited onto Route 3 eastbound, but lost control and collided with a Chevy Suburban near mile marker 9.8. At the scene, officers from Secaucus and Carlstadt, along with Paramus police, apprehended three suspects from the stolen Audi.
Three individuals, namely Hakeem Grant (18) and Donte Wright (19) from Jersey City, and Yasir Black (20) from East Rutherford, were apprehended. There were no requests for medical assistance from any of the suspects or the occupants of the Chevy Suburban.
The authorities took the suspects to Paramus Police Headquarters and filed the following charges against them:
Hakeem Grant, Donte Wright, and Yasir Black faced charges related to theft of a motor vehicle and receiving a stolen motor vehicle. Hakeem Grant was also charged with eluding the police.
