Temperatures in Pittsburgh are expected to rise into the mid-80s and low 90s beginning Tuesday, with some models forecasting highs of 93°F by Thursday, June 6.
According to the National Weather Service Pittsburgh office, the city’s normal high temperature is usually around 75°F in late May, but it is forecast to progressively rise to 77°F by the end of next week. A warming trend begins on Monday, with the most significant increase forecast between Tuesday and Friday, when daily maximum temperatures may consistently surpass seasonal norms by 10°F or more.
The most expected range for early June highs is 85°F to 91°F; however, some forecasts call for even warmer extremes. Monday’s high may still be in the 70s, but there is a growing likelihood of a lengthy heat wave lasting until at least Friday.
By staying hydrated, reducing excessive outdoor activity during peak hours, and monitoring vulnerable neighbors, residents can prepare for the early summer heat. School administrators and organizers of outdoor events may wish to plan accordingly as the week unfolds.
Temperatures are projected to remain significantly above average through next weekend, with new forecasts expected in the coming days as models develop.
