On January 14, police revealed that a talented student-athlete from Philadelphia tragically lost his life in a shooting incident outside his residence on Rorer Street in the city’s 25th District.
At 7:15 a.m., authorities responded to reports of an armed male at the 5000 block of Rorer Street. Police officers arrived at the scene and discovered 17-year-old Noah Scurry, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
According to the authorities, Scurry was rushed to Albert Einstein Medical Center by Philadelphia Fire Department medics. Tragically, he was pronounced dead at 7:37 a.m.
According to a letter sent to students and families by Principal Melissa Rasper, Scurry was not only a basketball player but also a top SAT scorer in the Samuel Fels High School community.
“This is a difficult time, but I know our community will be there to support one another as we remember a beloved student and classmate,” Rasper wrote. Boys basketball games at the school have been canceled for the remainder of the week.
The investigation is being led by the Homicide Unit, but so far, no arrests have been made and no weapon has been recovered.
If you have any information that can help in the arrest and conviction, you could be eligible for a $20,000 reward. The Homicide Unit can be contacted at 215-686-3334 or you can submit tips to the PPD tipline at 215-686-TIPS (8477).
