Two Texas runaways were apprehended in unique circumstances when one of the 13-year-old girls crashed while driving in nearby Louisiana, according to the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office.
They had driven little over 145 miles before colliding with a tree on Tuesday, February 18, according to a sheriff’s office news release.
“At approximately 5 am … a single-vehicle crash on US-71 near the Natchitoches-Winn Parish line,” the sheriff’s office said.
“Deputies arrived on scene finding two juvenile females, both ages 13, one suffering from minor non-life threatening injuries.”
An inquiry discovered that the girls had run away from Atlanta, Texas, which is around 175 miles northeast of Dallas.
According to officials, the girl driving the automobile “apparently fell asleep” behind the wheel, causing the vehicle to go over the center line, leave the road, go through a ditch, and crash into a tree.
According to officials, emergency medical workers examined the injured youngster on the scene and did not transport her to a hospital.
The girls have been released into the custody of relatives, according to the sheriff’s office.
Investigators did not say who owned the automobile or where the girls were going.
