Montgomery County Police successfully arrested a suspect involved in a stolen vehicle operation in Wheaton early this morning. During the operation, they were able to recover two stolen vehicles and also discovered a discarded firearm. Their swift action also prevented another theft attempt.
District 4 (4D) Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) Commander David Smith stated that in the early hours of the morning, specialized teams from 4D and 3D, along with @MCPD3DCommander, were present in the Georgia Ave/Shorefield Rd area with the aim of identifying car thieves.
At approximately 1 AM, a suspect made his way to the vicinity in a stolen blue work van. Undeterred, he then exited the van and tried to steal a tan pickup truck parked on Georgian Woods Place. However, his plans were thwarted by an anti-theft device installed in the vehicle. When our officers identified themselves to the suspect, he attempted to flee on foot and discarded a firearm in the process. Nevertheless, our teams managed to apprehend him. As a result, two stolen vehicles were recovered, the firearm was safely secured, and the suspect is now in custody, facing multiple charges.
