The Delaware State Police have provided an update on an event that one of our readers reported yesterday. Officials said they arrested 44-year-old Donald Renfer of Chittenango, New York, in connection with a road rage incident with a firearm on Route 1 in Dover on Friday. Delaware Tourism Guide

At 3:49 p.m., troopers responded to the Wawa at 500 Jimmy Drive in Smyrna for a reported road rage incident. According to the inquiry, the victim, a 48-year-old woman traveling with her two grandchildren, was driving northbound on Route 1 just beyond the Dover Toll Plaza when she got into a conflict with the driver of a white pickup truck. During the encounter, the suspect allegedly displayed a handgun and hurled a bottle at the victim’s car before driving northbound.

Following the altercation, the victim drove into the Wawa in Smyrna and saw the identical truck at the gas pumps. Troopers arrived on the scene and identified the driver as Donald Renfer. Troopers took him into prison without incident. A further search of the vehicle turned up a loaded black handgun and many extra magazines. Renfer’s vehicle contained two children at the time of the event.

Renfer was taken to Troop 3 and formally charged with three felony counts of aggravated menacing, one felony count of possession of a firearm while committing a felony, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, littering, and a traffic offense for failing to signal properly.

He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 7 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in exchange for a $24,750 secured bond.
