In Mississippi, tragedy struck as a police officer lost their life and two others were injured in a shooting incident. Reports indicate that the incident occurred in Summit.

On Thursday, a Summit police officer was shot by a passenger in a vehicle during a checkpoint near West Railroad Avenue, as per the Mississippi Department of Public Safety.

According to a report by The Enterprise Journal, Troy Floyd, a police officer from Summit, tragically lost his life. The authorities stated that Tyler Harvey and Joey Roberts, two officers from McComb, responded to the incident and engaged in a gunfight with the perpetrator. Fortunately, the McComb officers sustained only non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials have reported that the individual responsible for the shooting was also fatally wounded. At this time, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is conducting an examination into the incident.

Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves is urging everyone to join him and Elee in praying for Patrolman Floyd, his family, fellow police officers, and the Summit Police Department. He also hopes that Officers Harvey and Roberts will have a speedy recovery. Governor Reeves recognizes the bravery and dedication of Mississippi’s law enforcement officers and asks that everyone honors and mourns this fallen hero who was taken too soon.
