A 19-year-old man was arrested after Cook County Sheriff’s officers discovered him sleeping behind the wheel of a running vehicle while carrying a stolen, loaded gun, according to authorities.
According to a press statement from the sheriff’s office, Ivan Enriquez was arrested on March 19 at 3:12 a.m. near the intersection of 135th Street and Kedzie Avenue in Robbins.
Officers discovered Enriquez slumped over in the driver’s seat, with the car in drive and his foot pressing the brake. When they awakened him and told him to put the car in park, they noticed a strong odor of alcohol, and Enriquez appeared plainly drunk.
Police said Enriquez failed a field sobriety test and was arrested. Officers discovered a loaded handgun with an extended magazine during the arrest, which the Illinois State Police had reported as stolen. Officials stated Enriquez did not have a valid FOID card or concealed carry license.
He was accused of illegal possession of a weapon and driving under the influence of alcohol. The police issued additional driving citations.
