A woman in Indiana is currently facing charges, including reckless homicide, after allegedly causing a fatal car crash that resulted in the death of her 25-year-old sister and a 6-year-old girl. According to reports, she was driving at a speed exceeding 100 mph.
On the evening of November 23, 2024, at approximately 7:58 p.m. local time, the Allen County Sheriff’s Department received a report of a collision. The department later confirmed that officers had promptly responded to the crash, which tragically resulted in the ejection of two individuals from the vehicle. Regrettably, both occupants were pronounced deceased at the scene. It is especially heartbreaking to note that one of the victims was a juvenile, as stated in an earlier press release.
The victims of the tragic incident have been identified as Nalani Ella Ervins, 6, and Jaiden Samaria Marquis Newbolt, 25, as confirmed by the Allen County Coroner. The driver, Jourdan Hudson, is now facing multiple charges according to WANE 15.
Hudson, 23, is currently facing several charges based on the online inmate information from the Allen County Sheriff’s Department. These charges include neglect of a dependent resulting in death, neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury, reckless homicide, and neglect of a dependent.
According to the documents, the bond amount for each of the charges has been set at $47,500.
The suspect was driving at a speed of over 100 mph when the crash occurred, as reported by WPTA. The group was on their way to a birthday party at the time. Investigators from WANE 15 discovered that the suspect had reached speeds of up to 106 mph just seconds before the accident.
Police have stated that when they arrived at the scene of the crash, they found an SUV with damage and five individuals who were injured. Unfortunately, two people had lost their lives, but their identities have not been revealed.
According to the outlet, the suspect initially claimed that her sister was the one driving, but later confessed that it was actually her who had been behind the wheel.
According to Hudson, there were three children in the car, aged between 4 and 6, who were not seated in car seats. They had gotten lost on their way to the party while following another car, and Hudson and her sister were arguing. The accident happened when she tried to turn the car around on the highway (WANE 15).
According to WPTA, a hearing date has not been scheduled yet.
The Allen County Sheriff’s Department and the Allen County Courthouse did not provide an immediate response when contacted by PEOPLE for an update.
