In the upcoming legislative session in Texas, lawmakers will convene to discuss and vote on various bills that could potentially become laws. Among the proposals, there is one bill that has already been filed and is garnering significant attention. A Texas lawmaker has put forth a bold proposition to double the state’s minimum wage.

The bill filed for next year’s session is HB 691, which aims to achieve something that hasn’t been done in almost two decades: raise the minimum wage in Texas. The minimum wage in the Lone Star State has remained stagnant at $7.25 an hour since 2009.

The bill is proposing a rather unconventional approach to the minimum wage issue. Unlike the commonly mentioned $15 an hour, this bill aims to set the minimum wage in Texas at $19 an hour. This would be a substantial increase for individuals currently earning the minimum wage of $7.25.

Filing a bill does not automatically guarantee its passage into law. It is important to remember that numerous bills are filed during each session, and only a small percentage of them are even considered for a vote.

If a bill is to be voted on, it must successfully pass both the House and the Senate in Texas before ultimately reaching the Governor’s desk for potential signature into law. This process entails a long and arduous journey, with numerous opportunities for failure. There are instances where bills manage to pass the House but fail to be heard in the Senate, and vice versa.

Texans are eagerly anticipating a significant increase in the minimum wage, but it’s important to recognize that there are still many steps to be taken before this becomes a reality. In order to make a difference, it is crucial to reach out to your representatives and express your thoughts on the various bills that will be discussed in the upcoming session. After doing so, all that is left is to remain hopeful and wish for the desired outcome when the votes are cast.

Texas is home to a range of iconic symbols that hold special significance for its residents. These symbols represent the unique culture and heritage of the state. Let’s take a closer look at some of the most beloved and official symbols of Texas, including the state flower, gem, plant, snack, fruit, and many more.
