According to Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens II, on Friday, Dec. 6, at 10:47 p.m., a vehicle with six passengers was heading towards the Route 1&9 southbound on-ramp on Raymond Boulevard. Unexpectedly, the vehicle swerved off the road, became airborne, and collided with a support column for the Pulaski Skyway.

Lamar McKnight, 31, has been identified as the driver. Additionally, the victims have been confirmed as Darryl McKnight, 29, Darnell Carr, 22, Bradley Cunningham, 41, and Veronica Bailey, 31. It is worth noting that the McKnights are related to State Senator Angela V. McKnight by marriage.

All the victims resided in Jersey City, according to Stephens. Lamar and Darryl were siblings. The sixth victim’s identity is awaiting confirmation through DNA testing, as per Stephens’ statement.

Lamar McKnight and Cunningham served as coaches at Hudson Catholic. In December, McKnight assumed the role of head coach at Hudson Catholic. McKnight, who excelled as an athlete at Lincoln High School, went on to pursue his football career at Tennessee State University before transferring to Adams State.

According to NJ Advance Media, Cunningham was highly respected as one of Hudson Catholic’s most accomplished fullback/linebackers and a state champion shot-putter. He had the opportunity to play for Rutgers University.

Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop expressed his deep sorrow, calling the event an unimaginable tragedy. He emphasized that Lamar and Brad were not only exceptional coaches but also served as mentors, role models, and important figures in the community.

According to Stephens, the cause of the crash has not yet been determined.
