Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell has filed charges against Tyler Hitte, a demonstrator who became involved in a conflict with police during a Peoria rally on June 10. According to body-worn camera evidence, Hitte is suspected of assaulting a Peoria police officer and has been charged with three felonies.
According to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, Hitte resisted arrest but was eventually overpowered, arrested, and released on pretrial supervision.
The charges contain important specifics, including two counts of aggravated assault, a Class Four felony, and one case of resisting arrest, a Class Six felony. This protester is no stranger to the courthouse, having previously faced a criminal prosecution for an event at Arizona State University last year. The authorities must promptly ensure that the accused appear in court on June 25 to answer these latest charges. It should be remembered that these charges are only accusations, and Hitte is assumed innocent unless proven guilty.
