Over the weekend, three persons were arrested in Midwest City on suspicion of homicide.
On Saturday afternoon, Midwest City police were called to the intersection of Crosby Boulevard and Rulane Drive in response to a gunshot.
Officers discovered a man with multiple gunshot wounds lying in the street. Anthony Brown was recognized afterward.
Brown was brought to OU Medical Center and died.
At the scene, Midwest City authorities spoke with the passenger in Brown’s vehicle, who stated that the incident was caused by road rage. Other witnesses reported that a black Nissan drove away from the location following the incident.
The passenger in Brown’s car notified police. Brown was exiting I-40 from Hudiburg Drive when a car failed to yield. The entrance road has a stop sign, whereas traffic departing the highway has the right of way.
The passenger stated that as they exited the freeway, a black Nissan nearly hit them, so they honked at it. The Nissan driver responded by honking and flipping Brown and his passenger off. Brown’s passenger admitted that they too honked and flipped off the car.
As both vehicles approached SE 15th Street, Brown’s passenger stated that the folks in the Nissan pointed to Woekie Credit Union’s parking lot. Brown’s passenger recognized the other vehicle’s passengers wanted to fight, but Brown refused.
Brown drove past the credit union before turning onto SE 15th. According to the passenger, the Nissan started to pursue them. Brown’s passenger informed police that two males departed the Nissan that was following them at Rulane and Crosby. A fight broke out between one of Brown’s passengers and a man from the Nissan. Except for his underwear, the Nissan employee took off his entire outfit.
Brown’s passenger continued to battle the man from the other car, eventually wrestling in the grass and mud on the side of the road. Brown attempted to intervene to stop the fighting.
According to police, Brown’s passenger overheard someone from the Nissan exclaim about shooting a “warning shot.” Despite receiving multiple shots, Brown persisted in trying to break up the brawl. All three occupants in the Nissan fled the scene.
Angela Atkinson, Darayvon McCoy, and Travonte Rentie were detained following an investigation by Midwest City police. All three have been charged with murder.
