Schools in New York and New Jersey were closed or had delayed openings on Tuesday due to the extreme frost.
A cold weather advisory is in force for portions of the tri-state area. Some temperatures may not rise above the mid-teens on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to PIX11 meteorologists.

- Ellenville Central School District: 2-hour delay
- Fallsburg Central School District: 2-hour delay
- Kingston City School District: 2-hour delay
- Liberty Central School District: 2-hour delay
- Monticello Central School District: 2-hour delay
- Sullivan West Central School District: 2-hour delay
New Jersey
- Freehold Township School District: 2-hour delay
- Kinnelon Public Schools: 2-hour delay
- Monmouth County Vocational School District: Delayed opening
- Roxbury Public Schools: 2-hour delay
- Spotswood Schools: 2-hour delay
Before the cold freeze, nearly 8 inches of snow fell in certain sections of New York on Sunday afternoon and early Monday.
In New Jersey, some places received up to 6.3 inches of snow.
