Residents in West Virginia and Ohio are being encouraged to take precautions as severe weather rolls through the area. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a series of severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings for Monday evening, April 14, 2025.

As of 5:40 p.m., a tornado warning was issued for Clay, Fayette, Putnam, and Kanawha counties in West Virginia. This warning will extend until 6 p.m., with winds gusting up to 65 mph around the St. Albans-Nitro area. The storm has the potential to create baseball-sized hail, which poses a major threat to humans, pets, and property. Flying debris is possible, and the NWS advises everyone in the affected regions to take immediate cover.

Earlier today, a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Gallia and Lawrence counties in Ohio, as well as Jackson, Kanawha, Mason, Putnam, and Roane counties in West Virginia. That warning is in force until 6:45 p.m.

The storm system is bringing severe winds of up to 60 mph and ping pong ball-sized hail, which meteorologists warn can cause injuries and significant damage to vehicles, roofs, and windows.

The entire Eyewitness News viewing region is also under a severe thunderstorm watch until 11 p.m., with meteorologists predicting wind gusts of up to 70 mph and the risk of more giant hail throughout the evening.

The National Weather Service continues to closely monitor the storm and advises people to stay informed and heed any warnings.

Please stay careful, stay indoors during alerts, and keep emergency notifications enabled.
