A severe thunderstorm watch is in force for much of the Ohio Valley, including areas of West Virginia, Kentucky, and Ohio, until 11:00 PM EDT on Monday, April 14, 2025. Tornadoes, big hail, and powerful winds of up to 70 mph pose a threat to more than five million persons.
According to the National Weather Service, the watch includes Huntington, Parkersburg, Beckley, and London. These locations are at risk as thunderstorms develop, bringing the danger of tornadoes and hail up to two inches across.
Weather experts warn that strong winds might disrupt power and produce flying debris. Strong winds are anticipated to cause travel interruptions, particularly on major highways such as I-75 and I-64, as trees may fall and create traffic hazards.
Residents should monitor weather updates, secure outdoor objects, and have a strategy for sheltering in place if a tornado warning is issued. The storm is predicted to dissipate by late evening, but conditions will remain hazardous until the watch expires.
