Damaging wind gusts of up to 60 mph and localized hail are expected across eastern Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey this afternoon, with the greatest risk centered between noon and 10 p.m. Tuesday.
The National Weather Service in Mount Holly predicts scattered showers and thunderstorms this morning that will intensify throughout the day, with some storms turning severe by early afternoon. The greatest dangers are locally severe wind gusts and small hail, although torrential downpours may cause localized flooding in low-lying regions with inadequate drainage.
Allentown, Reading, Trenton, and Philadelphia are all in the slight danger category for severe weather. Wind-prone corridors, such as I-95 and I-78, may experience poor visibility and hazardous driving conditions during high travel hours. Outdoor activities, especially near trees or power lines, should be postponed until the threat is resolved.
Residents are advised to secure unsecured outdoor goods, charge gadgets in case of power disruptions, and follow weather information from reliable sources. While tornadoes are not forecast, the combination of strong winds and brief downpours may result in abrupt, dangerous situations.
Severe thunderstorm warnings could be issued later today. Stay alert—depending on how the storm develops, new warnings or advisories may be issued into the evening.
