Today marks the start of a colder weather pattern, with cloudy skies and a brisk northwest wind keeping temperatures near the freezing point. This is typical for this time of December. A few flurries may fall, especially in northern Wisconsin.

An arctic cold front is on track to move in tomorrow, bringing bitterly cold air to Wisconsin. Snow showers will develop, and some may intensify into snow squalls, producing brief, heavy snow bursts and gusty winds that significantly reduce visibility. This is most likely to occur during the midday and afternoon hours. While most areas will only receive about an inch of snow, any snow squalls could cause travel issues similar to last week’s storm. We may upgrade tomorrow to a FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY, so stay tuned.

Wednesday night and Thursday have already been declared a FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY due to dangerous wind chills of -15 to -25. The coldest air of the season will be capable of causing frostbite on exposed skin in less than 30 minutes. If possible, limit your time outdoors in these extreme temperatures. Highs on Thursday are expected to remain in the single digits, with wind chills gradually improving into the negative single digits by evening.

Fortunately, this arctic blast will be short-lived. High temperatures will rise into the 20s by Friday and the 30s by Saturday. As we return to more seasonable weather, expect a chance of rain and snow for the weekend.
