A speeding unlicensed driver from Mexico was arrested after colliding with a police officer’s patrol car on U.S. Highway 27/441.
Yoli Amaranta Sanchez-Santiago, 30, of Mulberry, was driving a white Chevrolet Cruze in the far right lane around 10 p.m. According to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department, she was driving at roughly 70 mph on Tuesday when she passed an officer traveling at 50 mph in the same direction. The officer began a traffic stop on US Highway 27/441 near Lake Ella Road.
During the traffic stop, Sanchez-Santiago stated that she does not speak English; therefore, a bilingual officer was dispatched. Sanchez-Santiago offered a Mexican ID card. A computer check indicated that Sanchez-Santiago had previously been arrested for driving without a license in Polk County. Sanchez-Santiago informed the police that she “only received a fine and must continue to drive because she has to work.”
She was arrested on a charge of driving without a license, booked into the Lake County Jail, and released after paying a $500 bond.
