LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – A St. Louis man faces criminal charges after allegedly crashing into a taxicab, robbing and assaulting the driver, attempting to carjack another motorist, and assaulting an officer who tried to arrest him early Wednesday in Berkeley.

Prosecutors in St. Louis County have charged 26-year-old Cornell Woolfolk with first-degree robbery, first-degree assault, and first-degree vehicle hijacking, all class A felonies. He is also charged with three counts of armed criminal action, unlawful possession of a firearm, and misdemeanor assault on a Berkeley police officer.

Woolfolk is being held in the St. Louis County Jail, with bond information unavailable at this time.

First Alert 4 reported from the crash scene, which occurred around 1:55 a.m. on Natural Bridge Road near Interstate 70 in Berkeley.

According to a Berkeley Police probable cause statement, officers arrived to find the taxicab overturned in the middle of the road.

Woolfolk, who appeared intoxicated, approached the taxi driver, asked for a ride, and then pressed a gun to the driver’s head while demanding money, the statement said. He allegedly struck the driver in the head with the firearm.

When another driver arrived, police said Woolfolk attempted to carjack them at gunpoint. As officers arrived, he tried to flee and began struggling with the police, according to the statement.

After being handcuffed, Woolfolk allegedly assaulted one officer by grabbing and twisting their genitals, the statement added.
