A 16-year-old was arrested and charged with attempted murder for shooting his stepfather.
According to officials, on the afternoon of April 6, a 16-year-old boy called 911 and claimed to have just shot his stepfather.
Authorities responded to a home in Virginia’s Shawneeland region and discovered the teen unarmed in a nearby wooded area.
The teenager was detained. Inside the house, authorities discovered an adult male victim with gunshot wounds. He was sent to a local hospital.
Officials say the kid shot the victim with a small-caliber gun before other family members intervened and took the rifle away. The teen then walked out of the house to make an emergency call.
The adolescent was detained and charged with attempted murder, malicious wounding, and firing a weapon in an occupied dwelling, according to officials. He is currently being kept in a juvenile correctional institution.
According to officials, the suspect and victim are stepfather and stepson who live in the same house. Police claim there was “no physical altercation or argument” before the shooting.
The stepfather had non-life-threatening injuries and was last reported in stable condition.
