A suspect in the brutal robbery of an off-duty NYPD officer in the Bronx over the weekend was apprehended Tuesday in Virginia, authorities said.
Taveon Hargrove, 23, was detained by US Marshals and NYPD detectives, according to a post by NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tish on X. A second suspect remains at large.
The attack occurred shortly after 4 a.m. on Saturday in the area of 1473 St. Peters Avenue in Parkchester.
According to officials, Hargrove and another man pushed the 27-year-old cop to the ground and punched and kicked him in the face.
The thieves then held a knife to the victim’s throat before stealing his wallet and iPhone. Hargrove then seized the victim’s registered firearm and fled the scene on foot with the second suspect to an unknown destination, according to police.
The cop sustained several fractures. EMS transferred him to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
Mayor Eric Adams stated in a video aired over the weekend that the cop was aware and healing. “He’s doing well, all things considered, and he’s under good care at Jacobi, one of our finest hospital systems,” according to the mayor.
