A 15-year-old boy has been taken into custody by the Houston Police Department after he allegedly shot his mother and sister multiple times on Saturday night. The incident occurred after the teenager consumed a significant amount of marijuana.
The incident took place on Greens Road, close to the Hardy Toll Road, at approximately 11 p.m.
The Houston Police Department (HPD) has reported that a teenager made a distressing call to 911, expressing his intent to harm either himself or someone else. In response, the dispatcher promptly returned the call and spoke to the teenager’s mother, who claimed to have no knowledge of the situation and insisted that nothing was amiss.
“[The officers] found out that the 15-year-old suspect had just eaten a bunch of edibles and I guess had a bad reaction to them, at which point he ended up using that gun and shooting his mother multiple times in the back and shooting one of his sisters multiple times,” said HPD Lt. JP Horelica.
The Houston Police Department (HPD) quickly responded to the scene and successfully apprehended the teenager, bringing him into custody.
The shooting occurred while the teenager’s 16-year-old sister was present in the house, fortunately, she remained unharmed.
In disbelief, neighbors expressed their shock to KHOU 11’s Michelle Choi when she spoke with them about the incident.
“Since it’s that close, it kind of sends a wave to your body,” said neighbor Margaret Smith, a mother of two.
Smith expressed her gratitude for the police’s timely intervention in preventing the situation from escalating further.
“It could have happened to anybody, he could have walked outside and did anything to somebody. I’m glad it wasn’t me, I feel for the family, the mom and the sister, but it’s some lessons you have to learn, now he’s got to learn the hard way. And that’s sad,” she said.
