Deputies are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying several young males who opened fire during a fight at a Cypress basketball court earlier this month. They reported that while some rounds struck nearby residences and vehicles, no one sustained injuries.
The incident occurred on May 12 at Rustic Lake Lane in the Cypress Springs subdivision. According to officials of Harris County Constable Precinct 5, deputy constables responded to complaints of gunshots from nearby neighbors.
Detectives from Precinct 5 found security footage that captured the events at “The Cage,” a neighborhood basketball court located at the crossroads of Longenbaugh and Greenhouse roads. The clip shows two young males fighting on the court before the situation escalates to shooting.
According to the camera footage, one of the participants in the fistfight left to retrieve a firearm. Shortly after, shots were fired at one of the young guys involved in the original altercation, who was also carrying a firearm, according to Pct. 5.
Despite impacting a nearby home and numerous vehicles in the neighborhood, the bullets fortunately did not injure anyone.
Constable Terry Allbritton stated that his department is leading the effort to identify the shooters. Detectives are working to piece together the events that led up to the hazardous escalation. They shared some of the video footage with the public in the hopes that someone would come forward with a tip.
