Tennessee man hits FedEx truck and punches police officer

A Tennessee man struck a police officer in the face after hitting a FedEx truck on a busy highway. The incident began during the morning rush hour, when authorities responded to complaints of a car being chased out of Rhea County.

Deputies joined the pursuit on Highway 60 near the county boundary. The dark SUV struck many vehicles, including a police car. Then the driver, Cornell D. Wilson, collided with the back of a FedEx vehicle.

The collision happened directly at the intersection of Highway 153 and I-75. According to News Channel 9, Wilson was not prepared to surrender. He hopped out of his wrecked SUV and fled on foot while police officers pursued him.

A deputy was attempting to use a taser on Wilson when he attacked him in the face with a closed hand. Other officers rushed in to detain him.

Wilson arrived at the hospital with minor injuries and is currently facing various charges in both Rhea County and Hamilton County. The allegations include aggravated vehicular assault, aggravated assault on a police officer, and resisting arrest.

It is unclear why Wilson was fleeing the cops, but Hamilton County Sheriff Austin Garrett stated that you should never attempt to flee or harm a police officer.

He added that deputies are 100% committed to apprehending and holding you accountable for your idiotic decisions and actions.
