Authorities in South Texas have seized 160 pounds of marijuana and made several arrests during a targeted anti-drug smuggling operation, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
The operation in Cameron County was part of #OperationLoneStar, a joint effort by the DPS, the US Border Patrol, and local law enforcement agencies. DPS Brush Teams and the Texas Rangers Special Operations Group intercepted drug smugglers crossing the Rio Grande in a Gulf Cartel-controlled location, according to the DPS. The initiative’s goal is to combat transnational crime and improve border security through collaboration with state, federal, and local partners.
